Edgar J. Kaufmann Jr. presented two coffeepots in the third book of MoMA’s Introductory Series to the Modern Arts, What Is Modern Design? Kaufmann wrote that an 18th-century silver pot was “expensive to make and troublesome to polish: a showpiece,” while “Convenience and efficiency are expressed” in a simpler 20th-century pot, and its “bold sensible lines are eminently graceful.”
