Winnipeg industrial designer Matthew Kroeker, a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design, established his own studio in 2004. According to the designer’s website, he cofounded Top & Derby in 2013 with the goal to “diminish the stigma of disability” through design, as seen in these walking canes. Kroeker said, “I love that each and every project brings something to the table that’s new and unexpected.”

The soft silicone-covered handle with its upturned nose is comfortable to hold and helps to position the hand directly over the wood shaft. The cane can also be easily propped against a wall, without falling, for quick access.
