The Liliane and David M. Stewart Program for Modern Design, gift of Helen W. Drutt English and H. Peter Stern as part of the Luc d’Iberville Moreau Foundation Collection, 2016.4.1–3

Dutch born Aldo Bakker is the son of jewelry designer Emmy van Leersum and Droog founder Gijs Bakker. He initially designed jewelry, but later turned to industrial design, creating unexpected forms for everyday objects such as this set of pouring vessels.

This is a favorite form for the artist: “It’s a welcome topic for me because if you like, you can also compare it with ourselves; how we are guests on this planet, placed here for a while and then we’re gone. It’s a circle and that’s what happens with these vessels.” His forms are so unusual in their organic shapes that their function is not immediately perceived.
