The design of this dining table was derived from an almost identical form Noguchi used for a rocking stool in 1953. From the stool, Noguchi designed a children’s table in the same form, which then was enlarged for the dining table, each one with a circular top supported by crisscrossing V-shaped metal uprights that appear to be twisted into a taut structure.
Noguchi, a noted sculptor, designed modern furniture for both Herman Miller and Knoll. Though it appears precariously balanced with its broad wood-laminate top, this minimal design is stabilized by a weighted base and functions well as a desk or for dining.
