The simple, functional Balans chair reflects Norwegian designer Opsvik’s commitment to ergonomic principles. The radical chair form allows sitting in a semi-kneeling position, encouraging good posture and preventing back strain by shifting weight and pressure from the spine to the knees. Rocking gives freedom of movement and improves blood circulation. Opsvik was one of several Scandinavian designers concerned about the social and ethical responsibilities of design.
