Project G Hi-fi Stereo Cabinet,
designed by Hugh Spencer and John MagyarAlthough high-quality stereo equipment is complex, the designers of Project G simplified the design into basic geometric forms: spherical elements for the speakers and a rectangular block for the stereo works and record storage. Good Design principles thrived in the 1960s throughout North America. The Canadian manufacturer Clairtone advertised the superior sound “by virtue of the rotating sound globes.” In the promotional photograph, the lady accesses the controls through the top, opened by means of a sliding panel while the gentleman enjoys the sound, seated in what appears to be a 1958 Egg chair by Arne Jacobsen—the simple yet dramatic interior setting echoes the futuristic space-age sensibility of the design.
